We finally cracked the code on “nooshin gooshing” – one of Roan’s phrases that had us curious and puzzled for months.
Apparently “nooshin gooshing” = curly hair. Lavina put 2 and 2 together while reading “The Tao of Babies” with Roan. Every page that had an illustration of a baby with curly hair elicted “NOOSHIN GOOSHING!” from Roan. This is also the phrase Roan uses to refer to the tufts of polyester he pulls from holes in the giant stuffed puppy Amma made for him.
Other Roan-invented vocabulary we’ve had to translate over the years:
“Chupes!” = Cheers!
“I-yahh” – Here you go!
“Oh my koon-yay!” = Oh my goodness
